We talk about energy capital and energy income. If you will think about the concept I gave you about the Earth being a place in the world Universe where energies are being collected . . . That’s the function here and now: to collect energy, not to get rid of it. Therefore when we are using fossil fuels, it is very questionable whether this seems to fit in with the antientropic function of Earth.
Some of the geologists that have worked with me very exhaustively, some of the top oil geologists, tell me that the amount of time it takes for the energies inhibited as zoology or vegetation-- for that energy to get filtered down on the land, to go down as coal in the sea, getting down finally to more and more depth, finally the 4,000 foot depth there on the verge of becoming petroleum, a little more together. If we take energy as the pressure and the time involved, and do that in kilowatt hours to find it costing somewhere around a billion dollars a gallon to make petroleum, when we say this is for free. It’s like saying how we found how to get a pipe in back of the savings account of the kiddies’ bank and all you have to do is pump it out.
